Coloring My Hair #myfirsttime

I couldn’t take the “diamonds” anymore, as my lovely, regular stylist, Rose, calls them. Diamonds are precious. Grays are not. During the Q, I found I had no choice but to take them on, strand by strand. But how in God’s name could I possibly do it alone? Wouldn’t the color splay everywhere? How could I effectively reach the back of my big head? What about coverage? Would I be able to blend color-on-color well? What color would I choose? There are so many gradient hues. How would I know which one to pick?

Enter Garnier Hair Color Nutrisse! I shopped online from brand to brand but was struck by the ingredients mentioned right on the box… Triple Oils: Avocado, Olive & Shea. I’m a big fan of oils to tame my curly, fizzy locks so it was an easy sell for me to think about using a box color with familiar oils infused right inside. The edible oils kind of reminded me of those I like to include in my typical diet, especially during my annual cleanse.

So what about color? How could I possibly pick the right shade from an online swatch? And there were so many–which I know I, like many women, like to have… choices! I had to look myself in the mirror. No need for any serious klieg lightening, but an honest examination of what kind of color my hair predominantly sported. The honesty-thing was relevant because it had been so long since I’d seen Rose. So, my color continuity was all over the place. I’d also been a frequent hot tub sitter since the Q kicked in. So, chlorine streaking had taken its toll on my tresses. Looking in the mirror, I focused in on the darkest of my hair colorings. Then it was time to move in on the online swatches. After fluctuating between Darkest Brown 30, aka Sweet Cola and Darkest Golden Brown 33, aka Caramel Fudge, I chose Sweet Cola. Time to place the order…

With the stay-at-home order in full effect, this typical Amazon Prime product now seemed to be on backorder for a couple of weeks. But what choice did I have? I was already sold on the Triple Oil concept of this Garnier Hair Color Nutrisse. Imagine how fortunate I felt when I finally received the two-pack product I ordered three weeks earlier. (By that time, the diamonds were now bedazzling what looked like every square inch of my scalp–an inch deep in some spots.) Apparently, I wasn’t the only customer with diamonds on the brain. Prior to this pandemic, many of us had been forced into sheltering-in-place without a one, last visit to a stylist. Like me, many must have missed that last opportunity to luxuriate in a visit with a trusted colorist.

Time to make lemonade out of a headful of lemons!

As advertised on the box, Garnier Hair Color Nutrisse really is a Nourishing Color Creme.

At long last, here is how it turned out…

So satisfied with Garnier Hair Color Nutrisse Sweet Cola, I celebrated with a glass of bubbly!

Cheers!
