I guess there’s a contemporary debate about the benefits of saturating your innards with water. When I was growing up, health buffs harped on the importance of drinking 6 to 8, 8-ounce glasses of water each day–especially if you had put yourself of a diet. Those that still support the practice call for imbibing half your body weight in ounces. The justification was that the abundance of the clean, pure fluid would act as a flushing agent washing impurities down and out of the system, much like raging river rapids will take with it anything in its path. In the self-contained human body, the images inspired by such an action seems like a healthy activity that anyone’s body might benefit from whether dieting or not.
You can see where my head is! I’m in the Pro group. On its face, the prospect of drinking so much water can be a daunting proposition. In practice, not so much. Aside from the bathroom visits mounting by the hour, drinking so much water actually feels healthy–and necessary…
